Address: 2001 South Barrington Avenue Los Angeles, CA 90025

Vinyasa flow

The majority of the classes offered are vinyasa flow style, which is one of the most popular styles of yoga. Although each class is different, most vinyasa flow classes incorporate a warm up of sun salutations. In the sun salutations, each breath is linked to a movement as the body awakens. The breath continues to be the focus of the class, especially as it becomes more physically challenging. Some restorative and yin classes are offered to restore during the week.

Relaxed space

Although the exterior is within office buildings, it is a tranquil retreat once you are inside. There is an open entryway where the teacher welcomes you. A couple of stairs lead to two yoga spaces. The larger room on the right is most commonly used. It has a classic hardwood floor where 3 rows with 8 mats in each row can fit comfortably. A dozen mats can fit in each row if the mats are hugged closer together (and isn’t yoga about a tight community?). Additionally, a wood piece serves as a statement in the front of the room. Water is available with a purified water system and mason jars. A large chalk wall by the water has rotating questions for people to share responses on the board.

Fun workshop

Yogaraj offers an exciting Saturday night with a great balance of yoga and wine. Not to worry, nobody has wine glasses next to them during yoga class while balancing in half moon pose (though that would be amusing to watch!). Andrea Jenson takes you through a practice with tons of inversion fun before a peaceful savasana. After savasana, you get to hang out with other yogis and drink some wine and appetizers. This is a great way to play and forge friendships with like-minded yogis.

Yoga & Wine:

First Saturday of the month from 7PM-9PM

$10 drop-in classes

It is a blessing to come to a yoga class and be able to get your yoga on after paying on the Square app or with only $10 in your pocket. Additionally, you no longer need worry about figuring out what the appropriate amount to donate is or if you have the right change in your wallet while you have your hips up in dolphin pose.

You can pay with cash in the donation box at the front or with the app Square Cash. After you decide which class you want to take that day, simply go to the teacher’s profile and find their Square Cash email. After downloading the Square Cash app, input your debit card info. Input $10 in the green screen and use their email when you select “Pay To.” In order for teacher’s to easily track attendance, pay for the class within a day prior to taking the class.

If you become a frequent Yogaraj practitioner, memberships are available for $140 unlimited, $100 for 12 classes, and $60 for 7 classes.

The founder, Jay Co, taught donation-based classes for many years at Santa Monica and West LA studios including Bryan Kest’s Power Yoga. Jay Co taught consistently at 8pm during the weekdays at the Yogaraj location, formerly called The Hub. When Jay Co took over The Hub and turned it into Yogaraj, he created the $10 yoga concept to simplify the whole process and put the focus back on the yoga happening in the room. Jay Co has a Zen presence while guiding students through extensive strengthening and balancing sequences.

All-levels vinyasa classes:

Monday and Wednesday from 4:30PM-5:45PM and 8PM-9:15PM

Tuesday and Thursday from 12:30PM-1:30PM and 6:30PM-7:45PM

Saturday from 9AM-10:30AM

Teacher training

Additionally, Jay Co leads unique 3-month power yoga teacher trainings that meet all day (8am-6pm) on Sundays. His teacher trainings focus on power yoga teaching techniques, proper posture alignment, and the corresponding anatomy activated in each pose. In addition, Jay Co thoughtfully selects books that relate to the 8-limbs of yoga and spends time discussing how each limb is relevant to the yoga practice. Uniquely, Jay Co has students take weekly classes from a variety of power and vinyasa flow teachers throughout Santa Monica and West LA studios. This allows trainees to observe the variety of teaching styles available. The next training will be co-led with Brent Laffoon. It starts June 4th and ends August 27th.

New Downtown Los Angeles location

A new Yogaraj Annex location has recently opened this past month in Downtown Los Angeles! It is located in the Arts District inside the A + D Museum. The studio is currently open on the weekends. Stop by for yoga and then get a coffee nearby at Urth Café. Jino De Castro teaches Saturdays at 10AM. He took his teacher training with Jay Co in 2011 and now teaches a lively class for adventurous yogis. Carol Corpuz teaches on Sundays at 10AM. She took Jay Co’s yoga teacher training in 2013 and provides a supportive practice for anyone healing from injuries.
