As you drive into this iconic town, you can hear the sea lions echoing from the shore. La Jolla is home to popular art galleries, beach boutiques, yoga studios, and cute dogs.

La Jolla coastA pink landmark building is situated in the central part of La Jolla. La Valencia Hotel, also known as “The Pink Lady,” is one of the oldest La Jolla dog-friendly hotels. The hotel was founded in 1926.

La Valencia Hotel signLa Valencia developed into a sought after beach getaway for artists and movie stars to bask in the sun by the aqua blue ocean. The hotel became a mecca for movie stars to relax and dine while performing at the La Jolla Playhouse, a theatre started by Gregory Peck.

Today La Valencia stands as the most romantic and luxurious hotel in the La Jolla Cove. The hotel is an inviting experience for dogs and owners. Between the employees and the guests at the hotel, the ambiance is truly exceptional and rare. This hotel feels like a trip to Valencia, Spain with the pink exterior, high tower, ornate blue, green, and yellow tiles, and the high beams with candlelight fixtures. The palm trees are the subtle reminder that the hotel is located in Southern California.

Café La Rue is situated at the front of the hotel and offers a scrumptious French menu. This cafés interior décor features paintings of French villages by the 1930’s artist, Wing Howard. The paintings provide a fun conversation piece on the traditional French lifestyle.

THE MED is a newly renovated restaurant that has a palette satisfying classic paella dish with a modern twist. Executive Chef, Alex Emery, creates a dish full of fresh local grilled seafood including shrimp, scallops, and clams along with chicken and salty homemade chorizo. Unlike traditional paella, the seafood is cooked separately from the Bomba rice to preserve the fresh seafood flavors. The dish is precisely prepared to provide a balanced blend of salty and savory Spanish flavors.

La Valencia has a beautiful La Sala Lobby Lounge with Spanish tile and leather bound chairs that face a picturesque window. The space has a rich 90-year history and it has retained the same classic feel throughout the years. Guests from around the world and locals often enjoy afternoon appetizers and drinks. Rich and inspiring discussions occur while being surrounded by the ocean views and warm Spanish walls and ceilings.

La Valencia fountainLa Valencia not only provides a luxurious stay for people; it provides a luxurious experience for dogs. The hotel is one of the most dog-friendly hotels in the world. Upon entering the hotel, dogs are treated with the utmost attention. Dogs are considered VIPs (“Very Important Pets”) at the hotel. Some of the amenities for dogs at the hotel are dog beds, food bowls, dog water dishes for the beach, quality room-service dog treats, dog leashes, and “VIP” dog tags during their stay. Dogs adjust quickly to this pampered lifestyle and their tails wag almost at the speed of light.

At La Valencia, dogs feel relaxed in this elegant setting. In the morning, dogs can stretch with their owners and do the downward dog in La Valencia’s specialty yoga classes. In the afternoon, they can suntan on the front veranda patio and enjoy tasty food with their owners. In the evening, owners can schedule massage therapy for their dogs that need to loosen their muscles after putting in long hours on their daily hikes and walks.

If dogs are feeling more adventurous, they can go to the ocean and learn to surf and kayak with their owners and great instructors. Make sure to call ahead to schedule the yoga, massage therapy, kayaking, and surf lessons from the a la carte menu.

Dogs can socialize at the occasional Yappy Hour and meet traveling dog friends and local La Jolla dogs. At Yappy Hour they can enjoy treats and enter raffles to win cool dog toys, prizes, and another “VIP” night at the hotel.

This vacation will help even the most stressed out dog to unwind! La Valencia’s Very Important Pet Package provides such a plush experience that owners can relax knowing their dogs are having the time of their lives.

Dog Hipsters decided to bring our favorite boxer, Rocky, to enjoy the plush amenities and ocean views. We received positive feedback from Rocky about his experience.
